Who will be broadcasting in the UK?
ITV has exclusive broadcasting rights for the next two World Cups – the 2019 event in Japan and 2023 in France.

Which TV channel will each game be on?
Most matches will be on ITV, with the exception of 10 which will be shown on ITV 4 (see fixtures below).

How many people watch matches in the UK?
Well, according to ITV, there was a peak audience of 11.5 million for England’s matches in 2015 against Fiji, Wales and Australia, and the final.

The opening group stage of the competition sees 20 teams attempt to battle their way out of four Pools – A, B, C and D. Each Pool contains five teams and only two can advance into the knockout rounds.

From there it is standard quarter-final, semi-final, final format.

England’s Pool is particularly tricky having been drawn in C with Argentina and France. It means one of rugby’s ‘big fish’ will suffer the ignominy of going home early.

Teams

Japan: Ryohei Yamanaka, Kotaro Matsushima, Timothy Lafaele, Ryoto Nakamura, Lomano Lemeki, Yu Tamura, Yutaka Nagare; Kazuki Himeno, Pieter Labuschagne (C), Michael Leitch, James Moore, Wimpie van der Walt, Jiwon Koo, Atsushi Sakate, Keita Inagaki.

Samoa: Tim Nanai-Williams, Ah See Tuala, Alapati Leiua, Henry Taefu, Ed Fidow, Ulupano Seuteni, Dwayne Polataivao; Jack Lam (C), TJ Ioane, Chris Vui, Kane Le’aupepe, Piula Faasalele, Michael Alaalatoa, Seilala Lam, Jordan Lay.

While it was far from a perfect performance, this helped to draw a line under Scotland’s 27-3 thrashing by Ireland in their opening Pool A game. This time it was Scotland who dominated the kicking game and won the collisions, especially in defence where openside James Ritchie was outstanding. It was the maiden “clean sheet” of the Townsend era and the first time that Samoa had been nilled at a World Cup. Even if their handling was far from pristine with 20 turnovers, the effort levels never dipped.
